Während die Iris des Auges beim Männchen gewöhnlich goldgelb gefärbt ist, ist die des Weibchens dunkel, sodaß das Auge fast schwarz erscheint. Pflege und Zucht: Das Laichgeschäft ist das gleiche wie bei F. heteroclitus. Die Jungen entschlüpfen den Eiern nach 7—8 Tagen bei 24—26 ° C, sind sehr durchsichtig und silbern gesprenkelt. Erst wenn die Jungen ca. 4 cm groß sind, tritt bei den Männchen die schöne rote Tüpfelung auf.
