For over a year and a half, we saw each other every day at work. The entire time, we were in complete denial about our feelings for each other. There was always an excuse or a reason why we shouldn't be interested in the other one. Outside of work we would hang out, and genuinely enjoyed and respected each other. Finally, Daniel laid his heart out on the line and told Mackenzie, "I have a huge crush on you, and I like you a lot." The next day was our first date; we went to get dinner at Maggiano's, and then to a speakeasy bar called Attaboy. We've been inseparable ever since.

About a month and a half before the proposal, Daniel told Mackenzie that his new job was hosting a meet and greet for their new employees. The event was supposed to be held at L.A. Jackson... on a Thursday... starting at 2pm. When pressed about why there would be a work event on a Thursday afternoon, Daniel said that he thought it was weird too, but that all his superiors spouses/partners were going to be there and he needed Mackenzie there too. On the day of the proposal, Mackenzie took a Lyft to meet Daniel at L.A. Jackson at 2:30. When Daniel walked in, he was wearing such an oddly formal outfit, and joked about how he looked like a copier salesman. They go up to to the rooftop bar, and no one was there. They meander around for a couple of minutes and eventually go over to the exposed rooftop patio, where Mackenzie's best friend Hannah was hiding, waiting to snap the perfect photo. He got down no one knee and said, "Mackenzie, you're my best friend. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" Mackenzie said "YES!!"

Even though it was Plan C, it was such a glorious day. We were so excited that we were able to officially get married and be husband and wife. Now, we are so excited that we get to celebrate our first anniversary with all of you!

When we first started dating, we didn't know how our workplace would react because there was no explicit office dating policy in the company handbook (yet). We felt the need to keep our relationship a secret until we felt that the time was right to let the cat out of the bag at work. But we had a problem; when we would text each other during the workday, we were paranoid that our coworkers would catch on. So we gave each other nicknames in our phones so that our colleagues wouldn't get suspicious. Daniel chose the nickname "Keke" for Mackenzie because Drake's song "In My Feelings" had just come out. Mackenzie chose "José" for Daniel because his first name is Joseph.
