Co-founder, The Story Group, a Boulder, Colorado-based multimedia journalism<br />

company focused on creating compelling public interest journalism on natural resource<br />

issues for a variety of print, broadcast and Internet outlets (www.thestorygroup.org)<br />

Author and freelance journalist specializing in natural history and environmental<br />

politics. Wrote forward to upcoming book Wild Moments: Adventures with Animals of<br />

the North (U. of AK Press) and a chapter on climate change science for The Last Polar<br />

Bear, published by Braided River books in February 2008. Authored cover stories in<br />

Audubon, National Wildlife, Smithsonian, National Geographic and Nature<br />

Conservancy about climate change, arctic ecology, and conservation biology. Published<br />

in more than a dozen periodicals, including The New York Times and Washington Post<br />

Author of Powder Burn: Arson, Money and Mystery on Vail Mountain, an<br />

investigation into the $24 million arson at Vail ski area in Oct, 1998 that the FBI called<br />

the costliest act of ecoterrorism in U.S. history. A Denver Post bestseller, the book was<br />

acclaimed by Outside as “an alpine Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.”<br />

eclectic beat of environmental, health, medicine, science, cultural and news stories<br />

including the 1989 San Francisco earthquake, the Gulf War and key Supreme Court<br />

decisions. Had far-flung bylines ranging from Port au Prince, Haiti to Kennebunkport,<br />

Maine, and from Vladivostok in the Russian Far East to Alberta, Canada. Flew on Air<br />

Force One with two presidents.
