After Volkswagen brought back the Beetle and Fiat just unveiled a 21st century version of its 500, Citroën is about to relaunch its fabled 2 CV (better known in France as the Deux Cheveaux), according to Auto Express.

You still occasionally see a 2CV rolling along in France, which has still remained popular more than a decade decades after Citroën phased it out. By no means a luxury car and certainly not a racer, the fabled model is often associated with a simpler and happier time. The modern version will likely be eco-minded and fun.

See the jump page for a pic of the original model.

The 2CV also found its way into Americana in George Lucas' "American Graffiti," which I've always considered to be one of the best car flicks ever made. Remember what Richard Dreyfuss' character drives towards the end of the movie where he goes to wait for the mysterious phone call?
