Description

Deciduous, winding its way through other plants in a tangled mass of flowers and leaves. The flowers give way by late summer to silky seed heads that remain on the plant during winter.

Grows on scrub land, hedges, old walls and waste places.

Flowers

The fragrant, star-shaped white flowers are studded with long white stamens. What appear to be petals are, in fact, sepals, hairy on the outside.

Leaves

Bipinnate leaflets on either side of the stem, each leaflet is further subdivided. Leaflets stalked, oval to round.

Fruits Seeds

Achene: a cluster of small, 1-seeded fruit with flattened plumes.

Medical

Leaves: sap of the leaves to treat eczema.
