Satureja alpina subsp. meridionalis - also called Acinos alpinus subsp. meridionalis - is a high altitude mat-forming perrenial. It uses rocks and crevices and sometimes other plants to grow and
protect itself from the wind, dryness and cold. It grows from 1300 metres all the way to the summits in all three of the main Cretan mountains and flowers in May and June
