Donatella Brings Back a Supermodel to Open Versace

Versace is known for its bombshell babes and supermodel star power, and this season Donatella and casting director Piergiorgio Del Moro kept the audience on its toes with a mix of big stars and new finds. The usual suspects were all on hand: the regulars (Natasha Poly, Anja Rubik, Iselin Steiro, and Mariacarla Boscono) sharing space with the current generation of It girls (Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and Adwoa Aboah). The show’s biggest surprise, however, came courtesy of its opener, Hana Soukupova. One of the original faces of the Eastern European wave, Soukupova was a fixture during the aughts and a bonafide Versace girl. Serving as the face of the brand, Soukupova posed alongside Boscono and Raquel Zimmermann in the Steven Meisel–helmed campaigns and was a regular sight on Donatella’s runway.

Returning to Versace after a decade-long hiatus, Soukupova picked up right where she left off. Looking chic in the show’s colorful hair extensions and the double-breasted peacoat she wore for the opening look, Soukupova was a welcome addition to the lineup. After spending the past few years raising her two children with husband Drew Aaron at their palatial Connecticut estate, Soukupova is now stepping back into the spotlight as an entrepreneur. Throwing herself into “passion projects” like a line of organic extra-virgin olive oil from Turmalina, Soukupova has kept herself busy, but her opening spot at Versace could mean a return to the industry where she first made a name for herself.
