John Wheeler provides landlord and tenant advisory services. He has a focus on leasing agency services for major property owners, creating and implementing solutions to maximize investor clientele’s value. His tenant representation work is concentrated in the New York region, in addition to ongoing national account work. John is a thought leader within the real estate and business community, with current and previous tenures on REBNY’s Commercial Leasing Board of Directors, officer of the Downtown Lower Manhattan Association, Board Member for the Alliance for Downtown NY, and is frequently consulted by the media on issues and trends in the market.

John has consistently been associated with some of largest and most transformative office Leasing transactions in the NY Metro region throughout his 35+ years in the real estate industry.

Landlord and sub-landlord successes include:

  • Brookfield Properties: over 1.9 M s.f. of transactions to date at Brookfield Place, with 97% occupancy
  • Fosun Property Holdings: over 1.5M s.f. leased to date at 28 Liberty Street, (f/k/a One Chase Manhattan Plaza), with 98% occupancy
  • Piedmont Office Realty Trust: 520,000 s.f., 18 year lease with the State of NY Agent at 1M s.f. 60 Broad Street, 318,000 s.f. lease with the City of NY
  • Wells Fargo: 500,000 s.f. sublease to Morgan Stanley at 1 New York Plaza; 400,000 s.f. aggregate dispositions at 1 Seaport Plaza
  • Melohn Properties: 450,000 s.f. master lease of the entire building to City of New York at 180 Water Street
  • Agency leasing representations: Manhattan experience exceeds 24 million s.f. and includes work on behalf of Rudin Management, Trinity Church RE, CIM, JP Morgan Chase, RFR, Invesco Real Estate, GE Asset Management, MetLife, Aegon Insurance, Paramount Group, Gramercy Capital.

Education and Affiliations

John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from Union College in Schenectady, NY. He is an Officer of the Downtown Lower Manhattan Association and member of The Real Estate Board of New York’s Commercial Board of Governors. He supports CURE Epilepsy, the Robin Hood Foundation and is a board member and coach at the Kinnelon Soccer Club in New Jersey.
