FANS are delighted to see Martin Hughes-Games back on the box.

The much loved TV star "retired" in 2019 but is now back on TV to host Channel 5's new show Summer On The Farm.

Who is Martin Hughes-Games?

Martin Hughes-Games is a 66-year-old television presenter and producer known for his participation on the Spring/Autumn/Winter watch BBC shows.

He graduated from Reading University with a 1st class degree in BSc Zoology in 1978.

Starting his career with the BBC in 1978, he joined the natural history unit before moving over to the Science and Features team in 1979.

He later returned to the natural history unit in 1988 and became a series producer for the team.

Martin is also a motorcyclist and has spent more than six years practising circuit racing.

In his home life, he breeds chickens and enjoys climbing.

Martin is best known for hosting the BBC shows Autumnwatch, Winterwatch and Springwatch.

When did Martin leave Autumnwatch?

In September 2016, his time on Autumnwatch was considered over when he tweeted that he had been let go.

On the social media site, he wrote:  “The BBC commissioner Tom McDonald has decided my services no longer requires on Springwatch etc. Sad, but it’s been brilliant. Thank you.”

A later statement released by the BBC backtracked on that, and said: “Martin very much remains part of The ‘Watches family.”

The news has sent viewers of the show into heaps of confusion – with some believing he’s staying, while others remaining convinced he has been given the boot.

Thankfully, the confusion was soon cleared up and two days after his initial statement, Martin confirmed his stay and wrote: “I’m very happy to say I’ll see you in October on Autumnwatch.

"Thanks SO much for all yr support.”

However he  2019 Martin quit TV, saying he was "retiring" from being on telly.

What is Martin doing now?

In July 2022 Martin came out of retirement to join Channel 5's new show Summer On The Farm.

Speaking ahead of the new series he told What To Watch: "I haven't done live telly for a long time. But I’m looking forward to it.

"I love the show because it's so eclectic. And good farmers are amazing guardians of the countryside and should be celebrated."
