Rio Olympics 2016: France’s tennis physio Patrick Bordier collapses and dies from sudden cardiac arrest

French athletes in mourning for popular personality who unexpectedly passed away on Friday afternoon in Brazil

A FRENCH physiotherapist has tragically collapsed and died at the Rio Olympics, according to reports in his homeland.

Popular Patrick Bordier, who worked with the tennis team, is believed to have suffered a sudden cardiac arrest on Friday.

The physio is said to have been a close friend of many of the French athletes, and the entire team is mourning the shock loss.

France’s Olympic Committee president Denis Masseglia said to reporters on Friday: “Patrick Border died suddenly this afternoon.

“Patrick was a friend and someone at the service of the athletes.”

France are currently eighth in the Olympic medal table, winning five golds so far.

There have been another seven silvers for the French, with five more bronze.

Judo has proven to be the country’s most successful sport so far, providing two golds, two silvers and a bronze.

There have also been golds in equestrian, canoe slalom and rowing.
