WENDY'S has shocked customers with an immediete store closure, due to a recent bankruptcy filing.

The news was announced on social media, suprising those who have come to love the Illinois location.

Employees announced on their Facebook pages that the Wendy's store located in Barry and Hannibal has closed its doors for good, according to ABC affiliate KHQA.

The shocking closure comes after the store's franchise owner. Starboard Group, filed for bankruptcy in November.

The franchisee has been running since 1999 and have operated many stores across the county including in Florida, Alabama, Illinois, Missouri and Wisconsin, Nation Restaurant News reported.

When filing, the company revealed that decreasing profitablitlies with Wendy's was one of the broader issues they were dealing with.

Some of the grievances they listed in filing includes: “disruptions to its supply chain, hyperinflation effecting food, labor, and food delivery costs, and breakfast stagnation and decreased customer levels.”

Starboard Group started closing 11 locations before its filing, and are believed to be shutting down many other locations in the coming months.

Unfortunatly, this is not the only business in Illinois thats shutting their doors.

On December 27, Barnes and Noble in downtown Naperville announced that they were closing and relocating 10 miles away.

The store's final day will be Janauary 21 before they reopen at the Prairie Market Shopping Center in the spring of 2024

Barnes & Noble shared an exciting outlook on the store's new beginnings.

"The new location offers us a huge opportunity to feature our highly lauded new store design," the Instagram post said.

"We can't wait for you to see our unique new design features and updated B&N Café."

The post confirmed that the current staff will be relocated to other locations.

“We thank our wonderful Naperville booksellers for all their hard work and dedication and know that they look forward to welcoming you back to their new store,” the post said.

This Barnes and Nobles has been located downtown for 25 years and the company has not given a direct reason for the shutdown.

Customers were heartbroken when they heard the news.

“This is a huge loss for Naperville,” one person wrote. 

“Downtown will never be the same.”

“This is really sad - a perfect location downtown, this will leave a glaring hole,” another local said.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to Starboard Group and Wendy's for comment.
