This plant is probably more commonly known as Grusonia invicta. It is a mat forming species of cactus that grows approximately over a foot, sometimes almost to two feet high and up to 6 feet across (or more) with stout stems and very broad formidable spines. In late spring plants flower with yellow flowers.

Grow in full sun (this plant can be grown in a landscape or container). If grown in a container, plants may need to be divided and repotted every number of years. Ensure good drainage, and provide low to moderate water in summer and keep drier in winter. Plants are hardy to about 28°F or even colder if plants are kept dry, but it’s best to protect them from frost.

The name Corynopuntia comes from the Greek coryne, meaning 'club', and refers to the club-shaped branch segments, so "club opuntia", club cholla. The species invicta is a Latin word meaning invincible, undefeated, or unconquered.

This species grows in silty, sandy, or gravelly soil at low elevation near the coast in desert, subtropical shrubland in the Vizcaíno Desert region. Central Baja California, Mexico.
