2. Common Plant Species of India
India has nearly 12% of the global plant wealth
amongst which there are around -
3,000 tree species,
15,000 flowering plant species &
3000 medicinal plants.
According to Botanical Survey of India (BSI) about
45 species are critically endangered (CR),
113 species are endangered (EN),
89 species vulnerable (VUL),
7 species are extinct (EX), &
2 species are extinct in wild (WE).
3. Brown-cedar Tree Ehretia acuminata (DC.) R. Br.
Family : Ehretiaceae
Bengali name : কাঠগুয়া
Ehretia acuminata is used for roadside plantings.
It wood also used for building and furniture timber. It
is also used as well traditional Chinese medicine.
4. North Bengal have had 350 or more trees. During
my I have noticed a few trees in the hills, forests and
plains.

5. Shrub Sterculia, Sterculia hamiltonii (Kuntze) Adelb.
Family: Malvaceae, Subfamily: Sterculioideae
Bengali Name : Hamilton udal/হ্যাশমলটশি উোল
It is very rare and similar with Sterculia striatiflora which
is recently recorded from the Arunachal Pradesh. It is a small tree with
its shrubby habit and flower structure. It is probably native to
HAMILTONGANJ (a small village town of Alipurduar district).

12. Snake-tongue Orchid, Diploprora championii (Lindl.) Hook.f
Family : Orchidaceae
Bengali name : Kamataru.
This is a small orchid growth in low altitude,
it have a cystic lip and have is a similar snake's tongue, very
interesting. It is very common in this area.

Opium poppy is a medicinal plant known to the human race
since the ancient civilizations, continues to be cultivated
around the globe for pharmaceutical industry.
17. Cannabis, Cannabis indica Lam.
Family : Cannabaceae
Bengali Name : Ganja
It produces large amounts of tetra-hydro-
cannabinol (THC).The higher concentrations of THC provide euphoric
and intoxicating effects making it popular for use both as a
recreational and medicinal drug. Its plant fibers can be converted into
cloth.
18. White Trumpet Flower, Brugmansia suaveolens

Bengali Name : Sada dhutura
Brugmansia are grown as
ornamentals outdoors plant year-round. There
are thousands of cultivated Brugmansia hybrids
in the world. Flower extracts of the plant have
shown pain-killing activity in mice
