A northeast Nebraska woman was arrested for allegedly using a vulnerable adult victim’s money to pay her own bills.

Kayla Hansen, 28, of Coleridge, Nebraska, was charged with exploitations of a vulnerable adult, unauthorized use of a financial transaction device, and theft by deception, all felonies.

Hansen was arrested Thursday night on a warrant.

An affidavit for her arrest said that from the fall of 2016 to August 2018, Hansen worked as a caregiver for the victim, taking care of their cleaning and care while they were suffering from kidney failure and were on dialysis. As part of the work, she had control of the victim’s finances.

Hansen allegedly made at least 54 transactions from the victim’s accounts to pay bills of hers and her family members. The total amount spent was said to have been $14,319.53 without the victim’s knowledge.

She is currently being held in the Cedar County Jail on a $90,000 bond. If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of 43 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
