Radio-friendly, alternative dance phenomenon Passion Pit — aka Michael Angelakos — is touring North America with his newly released third album, “Kindred,” a seemingly euphoric but ultimately dark synth-pop record co-produced by Angelakos, Chris Zane, Alex Aldi and Benny Blanco.

Angelakos is known for his studio wizardry, and the 10-song “Kindred” boasts a more evolved sound, even if the lyrics are less revealing or riveting than in the recent past. Passion Pit’s previous record, “Gossamer,” examined Angelakos’ struggles with bipolar disorder and alcohol abuse and the effects they had on those close to him.

With “Kindred,” he focuses less on his trials and more on the things that got him through those challenges, i.e., the love and support of his wife (stylist Kristy Mucci) and family. The album’s April release followed the singles “Until We Can’t (Let’s Go),” “Where the Sky Hangs” and “Lifted Up (1985),” a thanks-for-being-in-my-life song honoring his wife and her birth year.

Joining Angelakos on the road are Pete Cafarella on synthesizers, Chris Hartz on drums, Aaron Harrison Folb on bass and synthesizers, and Ray Suen and Giuliano Pizzulo on guitar and synthesizers.

8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, May 19-20, at the Showbox, 1426 First Ave., Seattle; $35 (888-929-7849 or axs.com).
