Robert Hughes OBITUARY

Two days after his 89th birthday Robert (known as Bob) passed away at home with his close friends at his side. Bob was a wonderful person, a real gentleman, caring, compassionate and loved by many.Bob grew up in Pawnee Illinois, graduating in 1951. He received his BS degree in finance and accounting at a private university in Decatur Ill. in 1955. He joined the US army reserves in 1957 until 1963. In 1962 he moved to Bonny Doon in 1971 and worked at the Sylvania plant until 1970. In 1970 Bob went to work and became the controller for the Santa Cruz Sentinel, he held that position for 28 years. He also wrote the bowling columns that lasted for 26 years and was an avid baseball fan.Bob was a addiment piano player since he was a child, He loved to play early 1900s music and gospels. Bob played the music for the Bonny Doon church for 17 years and volunteered his piano talent for multiple senior centers around Santa Cruz county. He will certainly be missed. His death was preceded by his wife Delores who passed away 7 years ago. They were married in 1958 for 58 years. A service will be held in is memory at 11:00 am January 28th at Bonny Doon Church, corner of Bonny Doon and Pine Flat Roads.
