Snails

No clean up crew would be complete without adding snails. Some such as the Nassarius, Bumblebee snails, and Babylonia snails, all make good general clean up crew. Bumblebee snails also eat the little pyramid snails that sometimes infect Clams. The various Cerith and Trochus snails are mostly grazers, although having said that Ceriths will happily scavenge too.

Conchs

As well as snails, of course Conchs are excellent sand sifters, and generally are to be considered essential on a sand based tank.

Shrimps

I think most of you will be familiar with Anemone shrimps, but, you may not have heard of Kukenthali shrimps before. Kukenthal’s cleaner shrimps are closely related to standard cleaner shrimp (*Lysmata amboinensis), and the very similar Peppermint shrimp (Lysmata wurdemanni). Whilst not as effective as Peppermint shrimps at eating Aips, Kukenthali shrimps will also eat Aiptasia, although not with as much enthusiasm as Peppermint shrimps.

Hermit crabs!

Pretty much everyone loves hermit crabs, and it’s easy to see why. We had over 500 hermit crabs arrive on Thursday so that has brought us back up to best part of 1,000 hermit crabs in stock. Make sure you check out the greatly reduced prices on the ECOSYSTEM hermit crab packs too!

Other crabs!

The Strawberry crab in this week can sometimes be a little nippy, however they look so cool I don’t think anybody will mind too much. It’s actually taken me 6 years of ordering them only to get 2 of these after all this time.

The fiddler crabs are particularly spectacular this time, and are immensely useful for helping to sift the sand bed in the aquarium. A vital part of the filtration in a reef aquarium.

Brittle stars and Serpent stars.

They are more sociable than you’d think, but, the jerky way they move freaks me out! Too much like a big spider!

Cowries

Whilst the little Money cowries we have in stock are peaceful grazers, both the Arabian Cowrie and the Serpent’s head Cowrie may well decide to eat the odd coral etc if you aren’t feeding the Cowries often enough.
