About The Artwork

This artwork measures 16x16 and is circular. Refer to the second image to see actual size within a room. Neptune, the eighth planet from the sun is the smallest ice giant in our solar system. Due to the planet's distance from Earth Neptune was an unknown planet to ancient civilizations, not being visible using their naked eye. Neptune possesses a dark blue spot within its southern hemisphere. Neptune’s dark spot is a vigorous storm that produces the most powerful winds recorded by any other planet. Measuring winds uptown 1,500 miles per hour. Mythological connection: Neptune was originally named Le Verrier, after the French mathematician and founder Urban JosephLe Verrier. The blue planet named Le Verrier was not critically accepted by the astrological community resulting in the planet's name change to Neptune. Neptune’s blue color contributed to its renaming after the Roman god of the sea. Neptune like Uranus blue color is a result of red light absorption from the sun by Neptune’s methane atmosphere and blue light emissions being released into space.

Brittany lives and works in Houston, Texas where she was born and raised. She obtained her BFA in 2021 from the Academy of Art University. Her background as a painter, photographer, and innovator inspires her multifaceted compositions. Combining painting, unconventional objects, and sculpture she creates narratives based on memories exploring adolescent youth. Her most recent art series “Home Sweet Home” documents collective experiences that resonate with memories of childhood juxtaposed with the reality of adulthood. Using hazy acrylic layers creates an illusion of ghostly images imitating the reality of memory. Somethings you remember and some things you don’t but with repetitive reflections on each memories you begin to remember hazy little details of what was forgotten. Brittany's artworks strive to stand as a reminder to enjoy moments of the present instead of chasing fleeting moments of nostalgia of the past. Brittany’s works are included in the permanent collections of the International Collage Museum. Exhibitions including The Contemporary Art Museum Houston: Contents under pressure exhibit (09), The De Young Museum: New Generations Matter Exhibit (2012), Arts Benicia: Fragments The art of collage and assemblage Exhibition (2015), Art Museum of South Texas (2020).
