      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Lena Headey brings the requisite grit to ground this fight for the future, even though The Sarah Connor Chronicles' budgetary constraints can't hope to match the pyrotechnic polish of the Terminator franchise's cinematic outings.

Ed Bark Uncle Barky It's relentless and well-staged. Rated: B Jan 28, 2020 Full Review Ellen Gray Philadelphia Inquirer I was kind of jazzed by the estrogen-fueled drama of "The Sarah Connor Chronicles," which, when you set aside the robots from the future, is really just a story about a woman trying to protect her only son. Jan 28, 2020 Full Review Joanne Ostrow Denver Post Large-scale fun, terrific effects and a rich mythology all pull in this show's favor, not to mention the lack of other fresh scripted fare on the networks at the moment. Jan 28, 2020 Full Review Peter Canavese Groucho Reviews Though [Lena] Headey will never be Linda Hamilton, the series has a solid cast, stylish production values and, under its belt, a season that demonstrates great potential. Rated: 3/4 Apr 21, 2020 Full Review Vic Holtreman Screen Rant There were more plot holes in this thing than those in a piece of swiss cheese. Jan 28, 2020 Full Review Americ Ngwije TV Equals The pilot episode is one hour of action packed, tension building moments that culminate in a pretty cool ending. Audience Member This is one of the best shows ever made. It's a must see if you like the first two movies. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member An excellent cast, good action scenes despite the limited television budget and an excellent story make this series the third best installment in the saga. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Felix R Wonderful series, too bad it didn't run longer. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/28/21 Full Review Audience Member It had its moments...but making a series without the budget is hard...the films been as good as they are make this a mountain to climb...in the end too much talking not enough cyborg action Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Drastically shortened as a result of the Writers' Strike that was going on at the time...and it shows that it was affected, thanks to rushed plotlines that from what I've read, end up abandoned next season, other storylines are barely touched upon and the season abruptly ends on a cliffhanger right as a new plot twist comes in. And yet, not counting Dark Fate since I haven't seen it yet, I still, like most people, think this TV show is the best of post-T2 media. There's great acting, genuinely well-executed scenes such as a scene set to the tune of Johnny Cash, does a decent job working around budgetary limitations despite the excessive editing in action sequences, decently written new characters and doesn't pull its punches. Seriously, you've got the Terminator who's on the heroes' side coldly abandoning two Russian siblings in a nasty bit of trouble to their deaths, with her justification being that they "weren't [her] mission". Yikes! It might not have any of the cast or much of the crew from any of the previous movies involved, not even as a cameo, but, while the first of only two seasons of The Sarah Connor Chronicles had the misfortune of having to tell its story in just 9 episodes thanks to some rather unfortunate timing, the stuff that's good about it definitely makes this show worth checking out, at least once. No sir, this TV-budget version of a franchise about time-travelling robots is far from a glorified fanfiction!
