      Critics Consensus

It makes good on the old-school action it promises, but given all the talent on display, The Expendables should hit harder.

Estevan G Exactly what it promises: a thrilling, action-packed ride filled with explosions, tough guys, and adrenaline-pumping sequences. The star-studded cast, including Sylvester Stallone, Stone Cold, and Jet Li, brings their A-game, making this movie a must-watch for fans of the genre. It's a fun-filled adventure that doesn't disappoint! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review Nick W Funny, action from the 80's 👍 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/24 Full Review Blu B It's a dumb fun Good time that's solid all around. The action is awesome with fights heavily inspired by the Bourne movies. The CGI when used looks horrific laughably bad from like a straight to DVD release. But most of it is practical. The music is solid and keeps the suspense and action going. It's focusd and doesn't jump around terribly with tons of pointless backstory really besides J.S. and it stays just beliveable enough while being over the top but never crossing over too much into ridiculous territory. It relies a lot on just the big name actors making up for lack of character substance and it works overall. The villian isn't too bad but if you've ever seen a generic 80's action movie he is ripped straight from it for the most part. At 95 minutes it never lingers and moves at a brisk pace. But what sends his over the top is like Commando it never takes itself too seriously and has fun with its excess and celebration of old school action. You can tell everyone is having a blast and it shows on screen giving a layer of charm and this does have a bit of heart to it also which was suprising. Anyone who is a fan of any actors in this, Stallone especially, or action movies in general will like this. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/24 Full Review S M Action icons not taking themselves too seriously. It was funny, entertaining and great escapism. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/23/23 Full Review Kristina W Great action movie with lots of cameos. The story is a bit cliche and the filming is too zoomed in on some scenes. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/07/23 Full Review LUIS ALONSO V great movie the best cast that i ever seen in a action movie the acting is great and every is so fucking badass Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online The Expendables is more than just your average action movie; it is the action movie of the year uniting the grittiness and soul of the old genre with the special effects and coolness of the new genre. See it.
