Hei Det E Rules go out the window; in a flash. This is an exercise in how to fully bury your own franchise, rather than extending it. The only redeeming factor it has, is that it has a couple of good moments; it has a few bright sparks - but nothing deemed worthy of a standing applause. Not worth a second viewing; but if you're so inclined - have a watch, simply to satisfy your curiosity. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/13/23 Full Review Gage A Is not relevant than the first one, its like a Japanese version of Saving Private Ryan, is a pointless film with subpar dialogue 5.6/10 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/11/22 Full Review Audience Member Many people state this film isnt as good as the first Battle Royale, and thats true, but its also a little unfair. Both films are very different, and I think people wanted Battle Royale 2 to carry on the feel of the first film and so would come as a bit of a letdown when it was more a war film than a Lord of the Flies type movie. Battle Royale 2 is still worth watching though and is a great action packed war movie. (seek out the longer cut rather than the theatrical version though) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review jordan m I actually liked the screenplay in this one, it was just the execution that was flawed. They did a good job putting a spin on the original and a few of the changes they made were appreciable, like giving all the characters anime hair so that you can tell them apart easier. Not that the last movie made that unduly difficult, just giving everyone huge spiked hair & dyeing some of them blonde was nice. The main issue was severely diminishing returns as other than the weird D-Day re-enactment this was extremely similar to the original. There's also a huge lull in action at the start of the second act that causes the movie to really overstay its welcome after the 90-minute mark as the entire back half of the movie felt like a super drawn-out climax. And I know it's a big part of anime sometimes but seeing a live-action movie where they have the characters do that barbaric yell/scream thing as if they've lost all self-control just felt silly. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review colin m This movie didn't make much sense and wasn't enjoyable. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Over-dramatic and poorly-made student film. This film starts off with a new batch of students who, even with massive amount of attention from the last BR and a sign-up website, are surprised to find themselves in a fight for survival. The man who runs the survival game this time gave a particularly bad performance, in a sea of mediocre performances. The introduction talk is so over-the-top and directed poorly. However, the concept of needing your partner to survive was particularly interesting and the boat and action scenes as the students race to the island was quite exhilarating. Too bad that once they join the rebels the plot falls off a cliff. Firstly, why did "that country" bomb the island and then state that Japan should sort this out. Why does Japan care if the island is bombed? They don't care about the kids on the island. The whole speech about a war on adults and that countries took this threat seriously is laughable. It makes no sense that there's a tunnel to the mainland that the Japanese government does not know anything about (and it's also lazy writing). It was nice to see the flashback of the daughter and the last teacher but it's not really used at all in the film. The rugby teacher moment is utterly ridiculous. Also, why does the organiser of game have a collar? Near the end of the film the two main characters are shown to have a heroic sacrifice, only for that scene to be nullified when they turn up in Afghanistan without a scratch. Finally, what does Afghanistan have to do with these kids?? It just comes out of nowhere to emotionally manipulate the audience. I think I've covered everything… Overall, a poorly directed, poorly written and weirdly acted illogical film. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
