Watch Royksopp’s Hilariously Trippy ‘Never Ever’ Video
Norwegian electronic duo Röyksopp have released an outrageous new video for “Never Ever,” featuring singer-songwriter Susanne Sundfør.
The self-directed clip uses endearingly campy special effects. Psychedelic neon backgrounds and an egregious use of superimposition match the bubblegum disco of “Never Ever.” The clip also features cast of bizarre characters — including an old man jamming on a Gibson SG and a knock-off Daft Punk robot – who dance in and out of the fantasy.
Röyksopp also created digital trading cards to accompany the video as well as Spotify playlists for all eight of the video’s characters, which were portrayed by four different performers (Rosie Preston, Sane Phoenix, Tom Bonnington and Jonathan Supajirawatananon).”The whole idea of us going away from the whole album concept was that we do have many musical expressions that we want to do,” said Torbjørn Brundtland. “One of them might be a club track, but we don’t necessarily want to do an album of it. It’s that way with ‘Never Ever’ — we love it, but we don’t need 12 tracks like it.”
Röyksopp released “Never Ever” at the beginning of September, marking their first single since their 2014 album, The Inevitable End. Following the release of that record, Röyksopp announced they were no longer interested in making full-length albums in order to cover more musical territory.
