A new propaguliferous moss species, Pohlia tibetana X.R.Wang & X.M.Shao (Mielichhoferiaceae), from Tibet, southwest China, is described. The new species differs most saliently from other species of Pohlia by its combination of slender plants, loosely attached leaves and axillary solitary, and dark red and flower-like gemmae. In this paper, the line drawings, photographs, habit of the new species are provided and a morphological comparison of it with the similar species is made.

The form of the gemmae appears to be constant within Bryum species, and it is an important character for distinguishing among closely related species. In this study, we describe a new species of Bryum, B. glacierum Y.Y. Liu & Y.H. Wu, that was collected from Tianshan Mountain in China along with a description of its gemmae. This species is distinguished morphologically by (1) gemmiforfm to julaceous shoots; (2) broadly ovate leaves, strongly concave, with obtuse to acuminate apex, plane and undifferentiated leaf margins, rhombic to rhomboidal distal and medial cells; and (3) dark red-brown, obconic or ovate bulbils with peg-like leaf primordia, densely clustered in the leaf axils of sterile shoots. The new moss species is currently known from two localities in northwestern China. The species seems to prefer high altitudes, growing as a pioneer mainly on ground exposed by retreating glaciers. The principal distinctive characters that separate Bryum glacierum from similar species of Bryum and Pohlia are discussed. An identification key for bulbiferous species of Bryum in China is provided.

This special issue of Bryophyte Diversity and Evolution is dedicated to Jochen Heinrichs (1969–2018) in commemoration of his outstanding contributions to bryology. His work spanned a diverse spectrum of topics that will be reflected in this special issue by 10 research papers. Therein, and in honor of Jochen, the moss genus Jochenia gen. nov. (Schlesak et al. 2018), the liverwort species Frullania heinrichsii sp. nov. (Atwood et al. 2018), as well as the liverwort amber fossil Geocalyx heinrichsii sp. nov. (Katagiri 2018) are introduced to the scientific community.

Pohlia leucostoma (Bosch & Sande Lac.) M. Fleisch. has been identified and described as a new addition to the bryoflora of India from Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. The taxon is characterized by acrocarpous, bright green, glossy plants with linear and filiform leaf propagules with 1-2 peg-like leaf primordia, forming clusters in leaf axils at the apex of stem.
