... broad black fin margins are currently only known from species of the Aphyosemion castaneum group (Van der Zee & Sonnenberg, 2011) it seems possible that A. fellmanni is also a member of this group. The characteristic black margins of dorsal and caudal fin of A. fellmanni (Figs 1, 4 & 5) are only present in two other species of the genus Aphyosemion sensu stricto: A. congicum ( Fig. 7) and A. rectogoense (Fig. 8). ...

... Republic of the Congo. Aphyosemion rectogoense occurs in the upper Lékoni-Djouya and upper Mpassa Rivers of the Ogowe basin, south-eastern Gabon. Aphyosemion fellmanni shares the very wide black margins with A. congicum. Depending on light incidence, these margins can be blueish white in both species (Figs 5, 7b). However, the genetic data (Fig. 11) did not indicate a closer relationship of the three species so that the shared colouration characters do not necessarily reflect phylogenetic relationships. A closer relationship with the two Aphyosemion s. l. species with black fin margins, 'A'. labarrei and 'A'. teugelsi, can be excluded by morphological characters. The type locality ...

... a second attempt on 27 June 1885, but again the expedition was very problematic. This time he reached the Cuango (Kwango) River, but from here he was not able to travel further east and he had to return again to Mbanza Congo on 12 August 1885. He decided however not to travel back west, but to follow the Cuango River on the left bank to the north (Fig. 12) and finally traveling northwest to the Congo River (Heintze, 2007). It is very likely that he collected the type specimens of A. congicum on this track, which is close to the area Radda collected his A. congicum specimens.
