Description

Short stems with lobed leaves divided into five leaflets on short stalks. There is a dense flower spike of cherry- to copper-red buds that open to reveal their chrome yellow interiors. When fully opened these flowers are 2.5 cm across.

The buds burst through the soil, or melting snow, in February opening as they do so but make a long-lasting display throughout March and April.

Fully hardy and readily grown outside, although it perhaps performs better under a Mediterranean regime under cold glass. In either case, a fertile, yet well-drained soil with some summer dryness is excellent.
