This beautiful, small cycad from the mountains of southern Mexico where it grows at altitudes of up to 1000 m (3300 ft.), has a small, subterranean trunk, and leaves up to 1 m (3 ft.) long with numerous leathery leaflets that have serrated edges. Z. loddigesii does well in both warm temperate and tropical areas.
