A medium-sized cycad native to rainforests in central Panama. It forms a slender trunk that holds a fairly large crown of ascending, very glossy green leaves. The few plants present in cultivation have proven it to be an adaptable and prolific grower that will succeed in shade as well as sun in all humid tropical climates. Like so many rainforest plants, Zamia elegantissima is endangered by habitat destruction due to clearing for agriculture.
