This smaller form of the popular Joshua tree is found in the Mojave and Great Basin Deserts southeastern California, southern Nevada, southwestern Utah and northwestern Arizona between about 1000 and 2000 m (3300 and 6600 ft.). Yucca brevifolia var. jaegeriana grows into a small, multi-branched tree with a maximum height of 6 m (20 ft.) tall, much more compact than the giant Yucca brevifolia var. brevifolia. It has earned itself a reputation of being considerably more hardy to severe freezes and somewhat more tolerant of humid conditions, making it a better subject to cultivation in temperate climates. In areas with humid winters it will need excellent drainage and even overhead protection from too much moisture.
