A very beautiful, small to medium-sized, evergreen tree rarely to 20 m tall with glossy green leaves and stunning, magenta to red flowers on the trunk and branches which are followed by plum-sized, reddish fruits that are edible, crunchy and very juicy and for which it is widely cultivated. Syzygium malaccense is originally native to lowland rainforests in Indo-China to Vanuatu. In cultivation it is best suited to tropical climates and takes only 4 to 5 years to reach maturity.
