A smallish Syagrus that usually forms a solitary or clustering underground or rarely shortly emergent trunk to 3 cm (1 in.) in diameter. Each crown holds up to 12 grayish green leaves which are stiffly erect or elegantly arching and have numerous, slightly plumose leaves. It is found only in southern central Bolivia, where it grows in dry deciduous forest on the eastern slopes of the Andes between 400 and 1800 m (1300 and 5900 ft.), often on poor, rocky soils. Due to the altitude it reaches in habitat, it is one of the hardier Syagrus and does well in the warm temperate or tropical garden in filtered sun.
