A dainty tree fern from montane rainforests on Fiji and Samoa between 900 and 1200 m (3000 and 3900 ft.). It grows a skinny trunk to 3 or 4 m (10 to 13 ft.) tall, holding a small crown of bi or tripinnatefronds. The black leafstalks are covered in big, reddish brown scales. In cultivation it should adapt to both tropical as well as warm temperate climates.
