A dainty tree fern from montane rainforests on Fiji and Samoa between 900 and 1200 m (3000 and 3900 ft.). It grows a skinny trunk to 3 or 4 m (10 to 13 ft.) tall, holding a small crown of bi or tripinnate fronds. The black leafstalks are covered in big, reddish brown scales. In cultivation it should adapt to both tropical as well as warm temperate climates.
