This delightful, small, often epiphytic aroid is native to the undergrowth of mountain forests in the Himalayas to 2400 m (7900 ft.) between Nepal and Indo-China. It is easily reproduced by bulbils and forms mats of creeping rhizomes that in spring give rise to small, heart-shaped leaves that are purplish below. Perfect as a ground cover for temperate climates in USDA Zones 8 to 10.
