A robust, spreading, evergreen shrub rarely over 2 m tall with small leaves and small white flowers, followed by small, long-lasting, bright red to yellow fruits. Pyracantha coccinea is native from southern Europe to the Caucasus Mountains and a popular and very robust ornamental for temperate climates. The fruits are edible but bitter and astringent, but are traditionally made into jams and sauces.
