A beautiful, large, dry deciduous tree to 40 m tall with rough bark, pinnate leaves and small yellow flowers. Pterocarpus indicus is widespread in rainforests over much of tropical Asia and Australasia but rarely seen, and extinct in some countries. Its heavy, orangeish to purplish, rose-scented wood is highly popular for high end applications. It also makes an excellent ornamental tree.
