This strange fruiting shrub from southeastern New Caledonia belongs to the Sapotaceae family. The fruits are small about the size of large olives and are covered with dense velvety rust colored hairs. The foliage is astoundingly ornamental. New leaves emerge copper colored and then change to a frosted gray as they age. An extremely beautiful plant that will adapt to cultivation in the moist tropics and warmer moist subtropics and has proven to be very fast growing. Spectacular!
