A small creeping herb from the Rubiaceae family that grows only a few inches tall. It forms pretty cushions on stony and clayey ground. Nertera granadensis is particularly interesting as a ground cover because of its very pretty red berries. The natural distribution is humid cloud forests, the subparamo and paramo between 1000 and 4300 m in South America. However, Nertera granadensis is also found in Madagascar, from tropical Asia to the Pacific, in the Caribbean and Mexico, and even on some subantarctic islands.
