A stunning, intensely blue and extremely rare form of this cycad with divided leaflets. Macrozamia stenomera is a beautiful and most unusual dwarf cycad is found on poor soils in the undergrowth of dry Eucalyptus woodland above 1400 m (4600 ft.) in northeastern New South Wales, Australia, where it even gets snowed on occasionally. Its stiff, narrow leaflets are forked up to five times, which gives the leaf a densely plumose appearance. Although it is not endangered in its native habitat, in cultivation it is extremely rare as seeds are very hard to find. It is not surprising that it is highly coveted by cycad enthusiasts. It does well in most warm temperate climates and can take drought as well as moderate to quite severe freezes.
