A medium-sized cycad with an underground or shortly emergent trunk that holds a crown of numerous flat, glossy, dark green leaves to 2.5 m (8 ft.) or more long. It is found only on Fraser Island off the coast of southeastern Queensland, Australia, and the adjoining mainland, where it grows in large numbers in humid forests on old coastal sand dunes.
