A beautiful, moderately large palm with a slender, solitary stem and broad, lightly keeled leaves with up to 40 leaflets per side that are slightly irregularly arranged. The prominent, grayish crownshaft and petioles are densely covered in grayish indumentum. The short inflorescences hold many tiny, orangeish fruits. Hydriastele lurida is native to tropical rainforests in western and central New Guinea. It will thrive under humid, tropical conditions.
