In this moderate-sized palm from New Guineas rainforests, each slender, clustering stem supports a smallish crown of ascending leaves that have large, irregularly arranged, dark green, fishtail-shaped leaflets with a glossy, metallic sheen. The new leaves unfold in a pretty pink or cream color. In cultivation it does best in a protected spot in the humid tropical garden.
