A small ginger native to mountain forests from the Himalayas to Indo-China between 600 and 1500 m (2000 and 4900 ft.) with leafy shoots that hold very showy, compact terminal inflorescences with white and orange, mildly scented flowers. In cultivation it likes a protected spot in the temperate garden. It is deciduous in winter and with mulching is hardy to USDA Zone 7.
