An attractive, medium-sized, fast growing, dry deciduous tropical tree with pinnate foliage and pink pea flowers in long racemes. Originally native to Central and South America, Gliricidia maculata is now widely cultivated for timber, firewood and charcoal, for hedges and as a shade tree and makes a nice ornamental flowering tree. In agriculture it is used as green manure and for fodder. It also has a number of medicinal applications.
