An absolutely stunning palm native to northwestern Ecuador that grows a solitary trunk rarely more than 3 m tall and to about 5 cm in diameter, which holds a spreading crown of beautiful, elegantly arching, nearly entire leaves. The long, arching inflorescence holds a few, thick branches at the end with large, rough fruits. The Durango population consists mainly of plants with the most splendid, intensely red colored new leaves, a breathtaking sight in the undergrowth of the rainforest. Chambeyronia, eat your heart out! Virtually unknown in cultivation, it would do well in humid tropical and many warm temperate climates.
