This fig tree, native to most of tropical Africa, has a vastly variable growth habit, taking the form of a hemi-epiphyte, a shrub or a small to medium-size tree, up to 20 m in height. It has a system of aerial roots, a trunk covered by smooth grayish bark, small, elliptical, glossy green leaves and orange-reddish or yellowish figs that are clustered at the apex of the branches. Traditionally, Ficus natalensis had a multitude of uses, from making bark cloth and ropes, to medicinal applications to fabrication of artisanal objects. Wonderful ornamental for tropical climates.
