An attractive cactus native to desert in southwestern Baja California Sur, Mexico. Ferocactus santa-maria grows a ridged, globular or barrel shaped stem rarely taller than 70 cm that is heavily armed with hooked, reddish spines and it presents beautiful, yellow, scented flowers, followed by fleshy, round, yellowish fruits. It is a wonderful, highly drought-tolerant ornamental cactus for dry, warm temperate climates.
