A rare small tree to 8 m tall with large leaves and small flowers that are followed by yellow, edible fruits which are considerably larger than the closely related and well known Tamarillo (Cyphomandra betacea) and much fruitier. They can be sweet and pleasant or somewhat tart but are generally good to eat. Cyphomandra sibundoyensis is native to cloud forests in southwestern Colombia between 1400 and 2300 m and will adapt to cultivation in many warm temperate climates.
