This beautiful, smallish palm forms dense groves in windblown scrub on sandy soils along Cuba's coastline. It forms a slender trunk and an open crown of deeply divided leaves with narrow segments that have elegantly drooping tips and are dark green above and brilliant silvery white below. It is a slow but reliable grower and, with its moderate overall size, it will find room in any garden. It likes a position in full sun or light shade in a tropical climate in USDA Zones 10 and above, and, once established, can endure quite severe coastal exposure.
