A real darling of a palm, this rare dwarf Chamaedorea is native to the understorey of rainforests in Central America between 300 and 900 m (1000 and 3000 ft.). It usually remains nearly stemless and rarely reaches 75 cm (30 in.) tall. The crown consists of a few densely pinnate leaves with beautifully undulate and prominently veined leaflets. Their color is glossy dark green with a hint of black, young leaves are a bit grayish. In cultivation it does best in a humid, mild tropical or warm temperate climate. While not one of the easiest Chamaedorea to grow, it is well worth the effort.
