A small, much-branched tree, common and widely distributed in savannas throughout Africa and in Yemen on the Arabian Peninsula, with bilobed leaves and small, white, bell-shaped flowers. Bark and seeds are used to make red and blue dyes, and the tree has a host of applications in traditional medicine. The inside of the seed pods is edible.
