Most people have heard of the Peach Palm's unusual fruit, but did you also know it is widely cultivated in South America for its heart-of-palm? Its clustering habit means that it continues to produce palm hearts after the main stem is harvested. The palm itself (interestingly, unknown in the wild) is a very pretty, fast growing, feather-leaved palm with fine and elegant leaves. Its spines may be considered a drawback, but carefully sited, it makes a valuable addition to any tropical palm collection, and in suitable conditions will go on to produce both fruit and palm heart.
